CPE Co-Founder and CEO Dr. Phillip Atiba Goff sat down with MSNBC's Alex Wagner to discuss the new report from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) detailing the rampant use of excessive force and other abuses by the Minneapolis Police Department. The following is an excerpt from the conversation. Here is what Dr. Goff shared:
"It should feel shocking and disgusting and ugly [...]. The thing that strikes me the most is that I'm hearing people talk about [this as] some measure of justice [or] some measure forward without considering the scale of the problem. It's not just the ugliness of the incidents. When we have over 18,000 law enforcement agencies across the United States and the U.S. government at best, when it was doing the most of these under Obama, we had three investigations like these per year. We have eight investigations open right now. You're not going to get to 18,000 [by conducting] three per year [...] If we are going to really solve what is a national level problem, we've got to have more than one federal remedy for it."
