Center for Policing Equity Statement on Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s Passing

September 18 2020

Today, the Center for Policing Equity released the following statement on Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s passing:

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a trailblazer from Brooklyn who made it to the mountaintop of American law. When she got there, she used the awesome power of the Supreme Court to force this country closer and closer to the unrealized promise of its founding.

Through the years, her judicial decisions gave a voice to those struggling to be heard and protected the civil liberties of those who were denied them. She was an intellectual force who refused to treat the law as a bloodless exercise in intellectualism. Her humanity and empathy shone through every opinion she passed down, until she had nothing more to give.

May her memory be a blessing. May we honor her dying wish to hold her seat on the Court until Americans have had their say at the ballot box. And may we all strive to reward her unwavering faith in the law as a force for justice and equity for all.
