Liz Swavola

Liz Swavola serves as Director for the Triage Response Team at The Center for Policing Equity (CPE). In this role, Liz assists law enforcement, public safety departments, and Black, Brown, and other communities most impacted by burdensome policing with redesigning public safety.

Before joining CPE, Liz was the Director of the Jail Decarceration Team at the Vera Institute of Justice. As Director, Liz led a team of researchers and policy experts partnering with communities nationwide to end mass incarceration at the municipal and county level. Liz’s research on the harmful and inequitable effects of jails and pretrial incarceration was featured in The New York Times, NPR, and CBS News.

Liz has also worked to improve law enforcement and community responses to gender-based violence and served as a law clerk on the Appellate Division of the New Jersey Superior Court. Liz holds a JD from Temple University Beasley School of Law and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.
